The Enemy of Excellence
Have you ever heard of the word ‘mediocre?’ It’s a funny-sounding word that’s seldom spoken but exists in every swimming pool in America! The term has many adjectives, including moderate quality, ordinary, passable, second rate, and unexceptional.
Since 1996, I’ve conducted more than 800 PEAK swim camps and predictably find that most swimmers possess mediocre starts, strokes, and turns. Why is that, I wonder? Is it the fault of the coach, swimmer, or both? I suspect both. Regardless, my current role is not to lecture coaches but to educate and encourage PVC swimmers to reach higher rather than settle for ordinary.
With that in mind, I’d like you to take this quiz. Be brutally honest with your answers, as truth is the first step to excellence!

Your next challenge is to move any that are second rate to okay, okay to impressive, impressive to awesome. Start small and ‘grow’ from there!
