Equal Catch and Finish: A Fun Way to Increase Pulling Power
Use this strategy when swimming butterfly and breaststroke in practice. It helps to increase your feel for the water, improve your technique, and strengthen your pull—both arms in butterfly and breaststroke work simultaneously, but seldom in the same way. Typically, one arm catches earlier and better than the other, and in butterfly, one arm usually pulls through longer and stronger than the other. What if you learned to pull equally as well) with both arms? Here’s how it works:
On the first 25, feel how your right arm pulls.
On the second 25, feel how your left arm pulls, then decide what one is best.
On the third 25, make both arms feel like the better arm.
On the fourth 25, feel how your right arm pulls.
On the fifth 25, feel how your left arm pulls, then decide what one is best.
On the sixth 25, make both arms feel like the better arm.
Continue the “1st 25, 2nd 25, 3rd 25 Sequence” through the entire set, even if you take a rest break at the wall.
